A robust, long-running committee focused on
creation care, sustainability, and carbon reduction.
About Earth Stewards
The Fairmount Earth Stewards committee focuses on environmental responsibility and sustainability. As part of Fairmount’s community, the team works to raise awareness and take practical action on environmental issues. Formed in 2008, the group was created in response to a broader call for environmental stewardship and social justice, the 1990 Presbyterian Church USA Call to Restore Creation for Ecology and Justice.
Earth Care Stewards oversee Fairmount’s annual certification as an Earth Care Congregation by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Presbyterian Hunger Program, documenting the church’s annual activities in the fields of worship, education, facilities and outreach in fulfillment of the Earth Care Pledge:
Our worship and discipleship will celebrate God’s grace and glory in creation.
Our education will encourage and support each other in
keeping and healing the creation.
Our facilities will be managed, maintained, and upgraded
to respect and cherish all creation.
Our worship and discipleship will celebrate God’s grace and glory in creation.
Ongoing Earth Stewards Work has included recycling, litter pickup, advocating for energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects, planting and caring for pollinator gardens, advocating for minimizing waste going to landfills, food composting, and spirituality walks in nature. The committee’s work is now trending more towards education and outreach, and engagement with other NE Ohio churches.
